History of Canmore, Alberta

Canmore, Alberta was a nameless wonderland until 1884 when a Pacific Railroad worker by the name of Donald A. Smith officially named the mystery town and began its journey for reputation. Only 2 short years later in 1886, Queen Victoria had become interested in this illuminating settlement and issued a coal mining charter and made history for Canmore. Canmore takes pride in there mining and offers mine tours and expeditions. Canmore took off with a bang and by the 20th century had a population of 2 000 and became an official town.
